Baguio: Chocolate de Batirol

Baguio's cold weather is one of the reasons why people go there. It's pristine nature and fresh air is really something you need to experience and see. But this is not the only reason I love Baguio. It's the reach culture of food that keeps me going back here. It's the gastronomical adventure that I'm really after. Plus the shared memories and enjoyment you will have with your family and friends.

Let me share with you the top 5 food joints that you must try when you go to Baguio.

1. Chocolate de Batirol

Baguio is known for their traditional hot tsokolate drinks. And I am happy to know that some business man want to preserve that tradition by opening Chocolate de Batirol. On my first visit here, we had the privilege to meet the owner, Mr. Jojo Castro. His passion in preserving the tradition of making tsokolate is really admirable. He educates people about this cultural heritage and helps the local community by providing livelihood for them.  I highly recommend that you visit this place when you go to Baguio.

Now, let's go to the good stuff.

Chocolate de Batirol - Traditional Blend (P80)
Chocolate de Batirol offers a variety of tsokolate tablea drinks. We opted for the traditional blend. It's not too sweet, it's perfect for my taste buds! This hot drink is perfect for the cold weather. But since it's nearing summer time already, I suggest you go here for your breakfast.

Chocolate de Batirol also offers their signature desserts. It's all traditional Filipino food and it's really good!  You also have an option to add chocolate syrup on top of these desserts. But then again, I like it better if you make it simple.

Bibingka (P105)
Bibingka is one of our great desserts and usually in demand for Christmas Season. If you are craving for it any time of the year, you can enjoy it hear. Their Bibingka is made out of galapong, the perfect ingredient for this dish. It is topped with salted egg and niyog shavings. I highly recommend this dish.

Turon de Langka (P85)
Turon is made off banana, wrapped then drizzled with sugar then dip fried. It always been my favorite snack growing up and their version is really good. If you love sweets like I do, then this is a must try for you! The langka gives it an added flavor that blends well with the taste.

Suman sa Lihia (P64)
Another traditional Filipino food is suman. It's made up of sticky rice topped with niyog and sugar. Their  version, Suman sa Lihia, is something you need to try. You may ask them to put chocolate syrup or eat it together with your hot chocolate de batirol drink. Perfect combination!

Chocolate de Batirol is not only a cafe or dessert destination. You can also have your lunch or dinner here. They offer old time favorite Filipino dishes.

Ensaladang Itlog (P155)
Itlog na maalat topped with tomato and green mango is a great side dish for your meal. The good news is, you can easily do this at home! This is a must try for you, whether in this food joint or at your home.

Boneless Daing na Bangus (P180)
Their Boneless Daing na Bangus is good. This is one of the two fish dishes that hey serve.

Beefsteak (P280)
Beefsteak is one of my favorite dishes. I love the beefy flavor and the tender meat. I highly recommend this dish.

Chocolate de Batirol is really a landmark already in Baguio and in your next visit, please do drop by here and try their awesome drinks and dishes. It's inside Camp John Hay. If you are staying in The Manor, you can easily walk your way here.
